NRA Endorses A Hunter – Chairman Hunter

Corpus Christi, TX –The National Rifle Association of America gave Representative Todd Hunter, Chairman of the House Calendars Committee, an A+ rating and endorsed him for State Representative for Texas House District 32. The endorsement was based on Chairman Hunter’s strong record of leadership on Second Amendment issues.

“The Right to Bear Arms is one that I – along with a majority of Texans – hold near and dear,” Chairman Hunter said. “This is a significant endorsement, and I am grateful. I will continue to do everything I can to continue being a leader in the area, to protect our rights and to earn this honor.”

Chairman Hunter is a long time supporter of the second amendment and hunting, and has been endorsed by the NRA in prior years. He is running for re-election in District 32. He has already won six terms as the state representative for the district.

Hunter receives Friends of Medicine award from Texas Medical Association

AUSTIN, TEXAS – Rep. Todd Hunter (Republican – Corpus Christi) received the Friends of Medicine award this week from the Texas Medical Association. The award seeks to recognize Texas legislators for their consistent dedication on behalf of patients and physicians at the legislature.

“Rep. Hunter has gone above and beyond to champion important legislation for patients in Texas,” said (DARREN WHITEHURST, Director of Public Affairs for TMA. “Because of his dedication to improving healthcare in the state, doctors and patients alike can enjoy a better business environment and a quality experience overall.

Rep. Hunter, who is chairman of the House Calendars Committee and sits on Corrections, General Investigating, Human Services and Redistricting Committees, has defended the tort reform laws that passed in Texas in 2003. Those laws, which have been a model for other states in the years since they took effect, have made a tremendous improvement in the healthcare climate throughout Texas.

“It is an honor to receive this award again this year,” Rep. Hunter said. “Healthcare is one of the single most important issues we face at the legislature, and I am proud to continue working to ensure that Texans have the highest quality medical attention possible.”

This is the third time Rep. Hunter has received the Friends of Medicine award. He also won the award in 1995 and 2009.

Justices of the Peace and Constables esteemed award to Hunter

PRESS RELEASE
Friday March 25, 2011
For Information:
Constable Bruce Elfant
(512) 854-9109

The Justices of the Peace and Constables Association (JPCA) of Texas honored Representative Todd Hunter at a recent event at the state Capitol in Austin for his outstanding public service on justice and law enforcement issues.

Representative Hunter, who formerly served as Chair of Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence was instrumental in helping Justices of the Peace last session as they fought against a bill that would have mandated unnecessary requirements for JPs. In a hearing that Chairman Hunter oversaw, dozens of JPs came to testify. The bill died in committee.

Judge David Cobos (Midland County), who serves as Justice of the Peace Legislative Chair, said, “Chairman Todd Hunter is an exceptional legislator. He always makes time to listen to the issues and provide excellent advice and assistance.”

Constable Bruce Elfant (Travis County), echoed these sentiments when he stated, “Chairman Hunter has been a consistent supporter of the mission of Justices of the Peace and Constables. We appreciate the process the Chairman has for his committees and find him to be impartial and fair.”

Hunter now serves as Chair of the House Calendars Committee, a powerful committee which decides which bills will make it to the floor for consideration by all House members. As Constable Ron Hickman (Harris County) declared, “ I believe I speak for our entire association when I say that we look forward to continuing to work with Chairman Hunter for the remainder of this session and hopefully in the years to come.”

Texas Public Employees Endorses Todd Hunter

October 18, 2010

Texas State Representative Todd Hunter
445 Cape Henry
Corpus Christi, TX 78412

Dear Mr. Hunter,

EMPACT, the Political Action Committee fo the Texas Public Employees Association (TPEA) is pleased to endores your candidacy. As the oldest and largest legislative advocacy organization for active and retired state employees, TPEA is a mainstream, non-union professional association with over 17,000 members. Please feel free to use this endoresement to support and promote your candidacy.

Looking towards the upcoming 82nd Legislative Session you are well aware that the budget shortfall is the most pressing issue facing the state and has been estimated to be anywhere from $18 billion to $23 billion for the next biennium. This session we hope to work closely with you on the issues and have established the following legislative priorities for the upcoming budget cycle:

  • Preserve affordable health benefits,
  • Support equitable methods to resolve the State’s budget deficit, and
  • Improve standard of living for ERS retirees.

Of particular importance is our priority to preserve affordable health benefits for state employees and retirees. If the recently submitted Legislative Appropriations Request (LAR) by the Employee Retirement System (ERS) were to be adopted, it would result in a drastic change to employee and retiree health care benefits. It is estimated that employees and retirees would be subject to a $2500 to $3500 deductible, or significant reduction in the state’s premium contrbution for the employee or retiree and their dependents.

State employee salaries average roughly $38000, with fully 30% of the workforce under $30,000 per year. Clearly these employees are not capable of absorbing cost shifiting of this kind which could make health insurance coverage unaffordable to them. In addition, these changes would seriously undermine the ability of the sate to recruit and retain a competent workforce well into the future.

TPEA has a history of working with the legislature to find smart and equitable solutions on the budget and other legislative issues. We are working on several proposals to preserve affordable health care for state employees and look forward to sharing them with you when appropriate.

Thank you for offering yourself up for public service during these difficult economic times. We wish you luck during the 2010 General Election.

Sincerely,
Gary W. Anderson
TPEA Executive Director
