Rep. Hunter Honored for His Shield Law Work
August 21, 2009
The Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas honored state Rep. Todd Hunter Friday for his efforts in successfully passing a shield law for journalists.
The Corpus Christi republican and state Sen. Rodney Ellis, D-Houston, received the James Madison Award, named for the country’s fourth president and author of the First Amendment. The two joined forces in the last legislative session to secure passage of the Free Flow of Information Act, which provides journalists a qualified privilege in protecting confidential sources and unpublished information.
